In this rare optimistic view of old Moscow, a happy and positive mood is immediately apparent – the artist is attempting to recreate the atmosphere he experienced during his childhood.  Only one car is visible – perhaps a sign of the coming of modern times.    As if in a small village, couples are strolling along the footpaths, and children sit, watching the animated scene.

The beautiful tree in the background at the right of the picture masks a reddish, modern apartment that would otherwise look incongruous in this painting.  Such a happy recreation is almost anachronistic in modern Moscow – perhaps the artist is expressing a sentimentality that would transpose such scenes into the modern world?
